Forever Youth: teens and young adults at New Hope

Forever Youth brings together teens and young adults ages 13 to 20 every Wednesday at 7:30pm at New Hope, a Brazilian church in Orlando. The Youth and Teens Gathering - Forever Youth is the church’s Wednesday gathering, ministered in English, with conversation, Bible study, and prayer, in the Reformed and Presbyterian understanding of the faith. On Sundays they take part in the service with their families.

“Remember your Creator in the days of your youth…”

Ecclesiastes 12:1 (NIV)

Between 13 and 20, almost everything happens: school changes, bodies change, friend groups change, and the faith received from parents begins to be questioned. It is the age when most young people make their faith their own, and what matters most at that point is having a place where they truly belong.

At Forever Youth every question is welcome, and the Bible stays open on the table.

Wednesday night

What is the Wednesday gathering like?

Arrival

From 7:30pm, at the pace of those coming from school or work. Someone is always there already, waiting.

Conversation

How the week went. School, college, a first job, family. This is the part that matters most.

Bible study

One topic at a time, chosen together with the group, with real room to disagree and to ask questions.

Prayer

For one another, at the end. Anyone who would rather just listen is free to.

Children of immigrants

What language is the conversation in?

Forever Youth gatherings are ministered in English. It is the language these young people study in, make friends in, and think in, and the teaching goes deeper when it comes in their own language.

For parents

What do the young people talk about?

Forever Youth teaches the Reformed Christian worldview: who God is, what the Bible says, and how that changes a teenager’s everyday life.

The topics come from what the group itself brings, and they cover identity, friendship, school, the future, dating, and what it means to follow Jesus as a fifteen-year-old in Orlando. The team teaches the Word and shows how it speaks to each of these subjects.

The Forever Youth team answers honestly and teaches the young people to look for the answer in the Word. That is why they come back every week, and that is why many of them end up serving on the church’s worship and media teams.

Beyond Wednesday

Where else do the young people take part?

The Wednesday gathering is the heart of Forever Youth, but it is not the only place these young people show up. Many of them serve on Sunday: at the sound desk, on projection, at the welcome desk, on the worship team, and in the New Hope Kids rooms, caring for the younger children.

If your son or daughter enjoys music, technology, children, or simply being around people, there is a place for them. Contact the church, and the team will connect you with the person who coordinates.
